Hello! My name is Sophia Kazmierski. I have been performing in plays at the Circle Theater for several years. The first production I acted in was Sherlock Holmes: Baker Street Irregulars in 2018. Since then I’ve been involved with Circle Theatre in many productions and roles.
I’ve worked as a technical intern and as an assistant director intern for the production of When We Go Away, a staged reading that told the story of Jewish people during the Holocaust. Since 2018 I have performed in other plays including Shakespeare’s Lovers, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, The Little Prince, The Wise Men of Chelm, Capture the Moon, and Godspell, which was unfortunately canceled in 2020 due to COVID.
For our current production, Descendants, I have been doing costume and props design work as an intern. Some props I helped create include the spell books used by the Isle Kid characters.
I take classes at University of Nebraska Omaha, and am currently working on getting my Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Arts with a Minor in Theater. This semester, I am taking a class on printmaking, where I use techniques like linocuts and etching to make artwork.
I have learned a lot through my experiences in Art and Theater. For example, in the theater, teamwork and communication are both very important skills to have both as an actor and in backstage crew. I have also learned to use a variety of techniques to remember my lines and stage directions. In this current production, the drawing and sculptural skills I have learned in my arts classes have helped me in the process of creating costumes and props.
